Happiness, A Simple Truth to
Contentment is a struggle, everyday. You want and want and want, but clearly, its never enough. For some reason Christmas seems to give us a free pass to be greedy for a few weeks. It maybe indulging ourselves with gifts, spoiling our families, or simply, dining and drinking to our bodily limits. But if you see the bigger picture, is this really what Christmas is about? Its five days before Christmas and I think its not too late to really apply “the spirit” of the joy and happiness in life (in general).
Here’s what I mean. Its my first Christmas to be working, and I must say having the capability of being able to afford a scrumptious dinner at a fancy buffet is hard to resist, nor the temptation of (over)spend for gifts to give out to the people I hold dearest. But really, if I gave in to overindulgence holding this season as an excuse, in the long term, what is in store for me? A broke a account and a fatter belly? This made me think.
What is really important? What really matters? Is it about how much I’m willing to spend on gifts? Is it about how much I eat on dinners? Is it about how much I’m expecting to receive as gifts? When is “enough”, “enough” in a time of joy, celebration and just sheer indulgence over everything? I never felt so much blessed in my life. I have a new disposition in life, an amazing job, a new dream, amazing friends and a wonderful family. But its so difficult to not think of what I don’t have… Of the things I want. Its natural. Its human nature.
What I’m trying to put out here is that, to be truly happy in life and especially this season is to be content. To be content that not having the things we just don’t have, or the things (or people) we want to have, or stuffing ourselves full everytime we dine, or having to give (or receive) something simple won’t make life or Christmas miserable or even less happy.
There’s so much negativity, and greed in this world and if we just look deep on what really makes us happy and what really matters, life is not as bad as it seems. Even the littlest and the simplest of things sometimes bring out the most joy in a moment and sometimes in our lives.Appreciate everything, and just be content with what you have. Not everything we want can be attainable. Not everything we want is good for us. We are where we are, and we have what we have simply because its where we have to be and its what we need as a person this moment, this time to grow and be better people.
Its hard to walk the talk, but I tell you, I do try my hardest because nothing else can bring you so much joy and fulfillment in life if you don’t appreciate and make the most of what’s already in front of you.
